May12

Today is May 12, just one month prior to the last day of school for us this year!  As we enter this last month of school it will be important for us to remember to savor the days.  It's a good time of year to remind ourselves about our goals, the expectations, and encourage proactive social skills.  This can sometimes become a challenge as we are trying to squeeze in the last of our learning standards.

During literacy lessons we are reviewing our decoding skills with blending and segmenting sounds.  We reviewed all of our sight words.  And in Writer's workshop we began our last writing unit on persuasive writing.  In this Unit students are learning to write to make the world a better place. They have been asked to think of a problem they have noticed around our classroom or school (or bus) and convince their readers why and how to stop the problem.

During math lessons we had fun sharing our 3D shapes and have learned about the composition of various 3D shapes such as cylinder, rectangular prism, triangular prism, sphere, cube, and pyramid.  Students learned that 3D shapes are composed of various flat shapes and they have learned about the various attribute each shape has such as vertices, faces, curves, sides, stacks, rolls, how it rolls, or does not roll.

This week we had the pleasure of hosting two different preschool groups!  Preschool groups are visiting Kindergarten classrooms in preparation for their to transition to Kindergarten next year.  It was for for students to be the "big Kid" and be able to show the preschoolers all about kindergarten!

In preparation for first grade, in June, kindergarten students will be doing a meet and greet with the first grade teachers who will visit our classrooms and tell about themselves and a little about what to expect in first grade.  Then we will tour first grade classrooms.  Students will find out who their teacher will be over the summer.

Happy Mother's Day to all the Moms!
