In literacy we learned about the letters j and p. Students are working on identifying sounds in words (beginning, middle, end). During writers workshop students continue to write true stories. We focused on making our stories better by adding details to our pictures and adding words to tell our story. During readings workshop students learned that good readers ask questions about what they are reading.
During Math lessons we worked on concepts of 1 more and 1 less.
In science are are learning about living things and the behaviors they exhibit to stay safe.
As I am sure you have heard, our much anticipated new playground officially opened on Monday! Students have been enjoying exploring all the new equipment. Just a reminder that the playground is closed to the public during the school day. Please refrain from bring younger siblings to the playground until after 3:00.
Just a reminder that our school day begins at 8:00 am, which means all children should be in the classroom by 8:00. Parents dropping off children should be out of the classroom by 8:00. If you are running late and arrive after 8:00, please make your drop off as brief as you can and say goodbye at the door. Also, if you student needs breakfast at school, please try to arrive prior to 8:00.
Now that we are nearly through the first trimester, all children should be gaining more independence. Please be mindful that students in Kindergarten are very capable. they are able to hang up their own backpack, put their coat and boots away, unpack their own backpack (lunch, folder etc.), and put their own shoes on. With 17 students and only one teacher, it is essential that students gain independence with these skills. Does this mean children will occasionally forget something? Yes! Does this mean your child may occasionally need help? yes! And that is okay! That is how they will learn. So I ask that you partner with me in helping you students learn to be independent with these skills by letting them do it themselves. You may even find that it makes your life easier, too!
see this link for other ways your child should be independent in kindergarten.
