Students roasted apples over the campfire at ECO.

It is 13 degrees this morning and feeling quite like winter!  Brrrr....  It seems that we have slipped into winter already.  Friday we had a enjoyed a wonderful, but blustery, morning at ECO!  The children did a great job coming prepared to be outdoors!  Everyone had snow pants and warm coats!  Thank you everyone for taking the effort to get their gear ready so early in the season!

In Literacy this week we learned about the letters r and e.  In writer's workshop students worked to add detailed pictures and words to their stories.  In readers workshop we looked closely at words and thought about the sounds in the word to figure out what the word was.  We also reviewed our reading strategies for reading our favorite storybooks.   During groups students are working on letters and sounds, letter formation,  phonological awareness (beginning sounds, ending sounds, blending sounds etc) and guided reading using leveled text. 

In math we worked on counting stratagies with 6, 7, and 8 items.  We are learning to group counters into 5 and some more (using 5 groups), counting in scattered arrangements,  straight lines, and arrays.  We also began working with the concept of 1 more.

During ECO we became Habitat Detectives.  Students learned about what animals need in a habitat to survive (shelter, food, water, air), and then worked with their group to search for signs of these things in the forest.

Reminder:  There is no school on Monday, November 11th. 

I potentially have Jury Duty Draw on Friday, November 15th, so the class will possibly have a guest teacher.  Please remind them that they can eat breakfast in the cafeteria or next to the breakfast cart in the library.  Other students may go to Miss Gales classroom until the classroom is open.
