It is hard to believe we are already a week into December! As the excitement of the upcoming Holiday's creeps into our lives, remember that is is extremely beneficial to maintain a normal schedule and routine for you child(ren). In the classroom we will maintain a regular schedule as much as possible over the next couple of weeks. That being said, I do have various holiday books and coloring pages students will be exposed to. Please let me know if this is a problem for your child or family. I try to have materials that expose children to various holiday traditions, and we will discuss the fact that no all people celebrate the same things or in the same ways. We will focus on diversity and acceptance of all traditions and cultures.
In literacy this week we learned about the letters h, l, and K.
Writer's workshop lessons focused on writing true stories with a beginning, middle and end. Lessons included telling Who is in the story, what they are doing, and where they are. In readers workshop, we practiced using our pointer powers by matching our words to the text.
In math we are learning about the concepts of 1 more with numbers up to 10.
Our theme in Science is Living and Non-living things. This week we did a Mystery Science Lesson which focused on where animals live and what what animals eat.
On Thursday, the school had an assembly with a production company from Plymouth State University, called TIGER. The group presented an educational and entertaining presentation about kindness.
On Friday the school had another Lobo Loop Celebration and all the children got to pick from 3 movies to watch. The students in out class chose to watch either Alvin and the Chipmunks Shipwrecked or Ratatouille!
Over the next couple of weeks we will be comparing and contrasting several "Gingerbread Man" books. This is always a fun unit for students to take part in. At the end of this Unit we will decorate Gingerbread cookies. If someone is willing to bake some gingerbread cookies for the class, please let me know! We will need them on Friday, December 20th
I sent home a few things in Friday Folders. 1. Sight word cards and activity ideas. Students are not expected to know all the words, but they can certainly practice with them. 2. A last minute book order. If you would like to order book, please do so by Monday so books arrive before vacation! 3. Family Fun Calender. Students are invited to complete 15 activities. If the return it to school at the beginning of January, they can pick a prize! 4. Directions to using Lexia Core 5 at home.
