This week we began researching our nature name animals. Students are using a variety of resources to collect information about their animals. They are using books, and iPad app called Epic which is another book resource that has books that will read to the children, and web sights. Each child is creating a poster about their animal. This is our way to collect information (take notes). Next week we will begin writing our informational text.
We read a new sight word book titled They Are On. The new sight word is on.
During math we worked on composing (put together) and decomposing (take apart) numbers using the number bond model. The idea being that the whole is made up of parts and the parts make up a whole. This is important work inlaying the foundation for understanding concepts of addition and subtraction.
On Friday we were treated to a dynamic assembly put on by a group of stage performers known as TIGER from Plymouth State College in NH. During the performance the students learned important messages about how to handle difficult social issues such a bullying. Each letter in TIGER represents an important step in handling difficult situations. T: take action, I: I can say NO, G: Get Help, E: Empathy, R: respect.
Upcoming Events:
Community Dinner and STEAM night! Thursday, Feb. 22nd. Bring the family out for a free dinner and participate in various STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) challenges.
Winter Carnival and Spirit Day: Friday, Feb. 23rd. Students will participate in outdoor winter activities and are encouraged to show school spirit by wearing Green and Gold!
