Tea from Paraguay (with a bit of maple syrup)

We began our week with ECO.  Students explore with concepts of Force and Motion.  They participated in 3 stations: 1) see saws 2) spears 3) mini bows and arrows.  It was a beautiful day in the forrest as signs of winter slowly leave us.  During forrest choice students enjoyed sipping on warm tea from Paraguay (which they are learning about as part of Spanish class) , played in the snow Kitchen, looked for animal tracks (Turkey!),  and played nature name animals.

During literacy we learned the digraphs /th/ and /wh/.  Students read leveled books during guided reading,  practiced blending and segmenting words,  and practiced manipulating sounds in words by either dropping the beginning sound or ending sound to make a new word.  During writers workshop students worked on their true stories (personal narratives).  We ended the week with a new sight word book titled He Said No.  New sight words are: he, she, said, no.

During our math lessons we learned about concepts of subtraction by acting out stories using cubes, drawings, number bonds, and equations.  Students decomposed numbers 6, 7, and 8.

Our theme is Force and Motion.  Students have learned that a force is a push or a pull or both a push and a pull.  We explored with motions moving our bodies in different directions (forward, backward, sideways, up and down, and around).  On Friday we set up our classroom into stations where students sand painted with a pendulum, marble painted, explored with ramps and barrels,  and used straws to blow a pom pom through a maze.

Spring Concert:  Thursday, April 12th @ Peoples Academy gymnasium.  Students should arrive at 5:45.

April Vacations: April 16-20.

Last day of Kindergarten will be Tuesday, June 12th
