| All the animals were snug and warm in the mitten... |
We were back in full swing again this week!
In learned about the letters x and y. Students learned the letter formation, keyword and sound for each letter. We also learned three new sight words: am, in, and are. We read a new sight word book titled We Are . Students are learned how to tap (segment) the sound in a word to decode (read) CVC (dog, cat, jet...) words.
Our literature spotlight this week was The Mitten, by Jan Brett. This is the third Jan Brett book we have read this year and students are beginning to recognize her style. We also read The Hat, and Trouble With Trolls, both also written by Jan Brett. During Writer's Workshop, students worked on their small moment narratives. We learned about writing sentences and how writer's use tools such as checklists to help them become better writers.
In math we practiced making equal sets, sets with 1 more and sets with 1 less.
On Theme on Friday was The Mitten. We re read the book and then acted it out with students each playing a part in the story. Students got their own Mitten take home book and we read that together before putting it into our book boxes for practice. In Math students learned about Symmetry and designed symmetric mittens using pattern block stickers.
