Feb. 16

We began our week in our forest classroom learning about animal gaites (mammals).  We played a tag game called "Ranger" using animal gaits. We explored the forest floor for signs of animals to determine what animals are present by the type of gait and tracks we found.  My group found signs of two types of straight walkers (deer and fox) and a hopper (snowshoe hare).  We followed the deer tracks and found scat (poop) and a deer bed (which even had some strands of fur left behind).  During forest choice students played in the snow kitchen, painted animal tracks in the snow, roasted hot dogs, enjoyed tree tee, and played forest animals.

In Literacy we learned how to write capital J and I on the fundations lines, we learned the sight word: on, and wrote our narratives during writer's workshop.  We are currently assessing reading levels.

In math we used number stories to write number bonds and number sentences.
