June 1

Vermont author/illustrator, John Steven Gurney

WOW!  And just like that it is June 1st.  I'm not sure where all the time went this year.

During this week students were assessed in math with the Primary Numbers and Operations Assessment (PNOA).  Overall, the class showed a lot of growth over the year.  I was really proud of students as they persevered through each task.  the assessments takes between 30 - 45 minutes per student.

I also finished assessing students' reading levels.  As a reference for report cards, students who are reading at a least a level C or D at an instructional level (some support), will be considered proficient.  In writers workshop we are wrapping up our last writing unit which is persuasive writing.

During Science we are focused on weather patterns and how weather patterns change from season to season.

On Friday the school celebrated the CLiF Year of the book with a final celebration.  Each students received two more free books, had fun pictures taken at photo booths using fun props, and participated in an outdoor obstacle course.  We were also treated to a visit from a local Vermont author/illustrator, John Steven Gurney, who shared with us the inspirations for his work.

Kindergarten students will meet the first grade teachers this Wednesday as we have a meet and greet with the teachers and then will tour their classrooms.

Reminder that we have our Finda ECO celebration on Monday, June 3rd.  As seems to be the theme this spring, the forecast is cool and rainy, so please ensure that your child has a raincoat, and rain pants (if you have them).  All Kindergarten students will be attending the celebration on Monday, so there will not be enough rain pants to borrow.  Please pack extra clothes and shoes so your child can change when we get back to school if they are wet.

On Friday, June 7th, the school will have a BBQ and Field Day's in the afternoon.

On Monday, June 10th, we will be walking to PA to watch the PAML performance of Shrek!

Tuesday, June 11th is our last day of Kindergarten.  We hope you will join us for our writing Celebration and presentation of certificates at 1:45 in the MES Art Room.  I will be requesting donation of snacks.
