We are off to a great new beginning! The children are all getting to know each other and are already making new friends. In fact, when we share "What made you happy today," during one of our closing circles many children expressed making new friends or playing with new friends made them happy!
We launched our readers workshop this week. Students are learning that there are words to be read all over the world! In the community we live in, in our house, in our school, in magazines, and on signs, in books, and on computers. When we stop to notice words we think about they are telling us. Then we learn to read. We also learned that there are two types of books: Books that tell stories and books that teach us about the world we live in.
We learned about the letter t this week. Students learned the name, keyword and sound (T, top /t/) and they learned how to write the letter t using our Fundations line grid (sky line, plane line, grass line, worm line ). Fundations is the phonics program we use to teach letters and sounds and eventually blending sounds to read and spell words.
In Math we learned our Calendar routine, practiced counting, and explored with pattern blocks.
Students participated in Spanish, Library, P.E. and Music this week.
On Friday we celebrated a great new beginning with crowns and popsicles!
Please remember to send back Friday Folders on Monday. If you have not completed your on line registration forms please make sure you do this.
