| We built a bear den! |
We spent the beginning of the week reviewing last weeks as several students were out sick last week. We focused on letters l, k, and h. We learned two new sight words this week: at, and look, and read a new sight word book. We practiced orally blending and segment sounds in words.
We read The Gingerbread Boy by Paul Galdon and The Gingerbread Man retold by Jim Aylesworth.
The students sequenced the The Gingerbread Boy and retold the beginning, middle, and end. We also identified character traits. Then we compared and contrasted The Gingerbread Boy and The Gingerbread Man. We will read other versions of the story over the next couple of weeks.
During math lessons, students measured items using cube sticks and compared cube sticks lengths. We began comparing items by weight using the language heavier than... or lighter than...
Science lessons focused on animal needs. We learned how animals create shelter using holes in trees and later in ECO learned how bears find dens to hibernate in during the winter.
Our Next ECO lesson will not happen until January 4th (weather permitting). We will likely shorten the duration of the time at our camp-sight depending on the temperature.
