Week 16

During the sixteenth week of school we learned the letter, key word, and sound for w and v.  We will continue these letters next week as we did not complete all of our lessons with these letters.  We will finish our last four letters after we get back from our December break.  Then we will be moving on to uppercase letters and really start focusing on blending sounds to read words.

During writer's workshop we started our second unit: Writers as Readers.  Students are writing "small moments".  These are narratives in which students focus on telling about a small part of a day.  OUr focus is telling a beginning, middle, and end.  We began by planning our stories using a graphic organizer.  Then students began composing their pages using their graphic organizers as a guide.

We read The Gingerbread Baby by Jan Brett this week comparing and contrasting the story to identify how it is alike and different from the Gingerbread Man and the Gingerbread Boy.

Our lessons in math compared the weight of objects using a balance scale.  Lessons focused on heavier than, lighter than and equal to.

We concluded our unit on living and non-living things this week.  Students should be able to identify what living things need to survive and they: grow and change, move, and reproduce.

We will NOT have ECO next Friday (as stated on the school Calendar).  Our next ECO will take place on Friday, Jan. 4th.

Comfy Cozy day:  Friday, Jan. 21st.

NO School Dec. 24th - Jan 1st.  School resumes on Wednesday, Jan 2nd.
