We had another busy week in kindergarten! Students learned how to form the letter S and learned the sight words: like and and. We read a new sight word book titled I like. During reading groups students had guided reading lessons where they worked on early reading skills using leveled text. During writer's workshop we worked on our animal research reports. This week we learned how to write in introduction by "hooking" our readers using words.
Math lessons this week focused on decomposing numbers using take away stories and drawings. Students learned how to write a "take away" number sentence and also used number bonds to show taking away.
We began a new science unit this week with a focus on Force and Motion. Students learned that all motion requires a force (a push or pull). We learned how machines help us in performing jobs such as digging big holes. We explored using pendulums (a wrecking ball) to knock down a wall, and at ECO we used force and motion to throw spears, create balances (see saws) and mini bows and arrows.
