First, let me start by saying Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there. This year, year more than ever, your dedication to your child(ren) goes without notice. I want to thank you (and all the dads) for all you are doing to support your child's education and their social - emotional wellbeing. Every one of you has risen to the challenge of not only parenting, but supporting your child with remote learning, while either trying to juggle working from home, or dealing with the challenges of unemployment. Today I salute you!
We had a great attendance this week at our google meet small groups, individual meets, and morning meeting! I was experiencing some technology issues at the beginning of the week, but thanks to the tech department, my computer has been updated and is now running smoothly! We seem to have settled into a predictable routine, and students are practicing skills and new learning is happening!
In addition to lessons and assignments pushed out through Seesaw, children should:
- Read 10 -15 minutes 3 days per week (physical books, Epic, or Raz Kids)
- Play Dreambox 15-20 minutes 4 day per week.
- Play Lexia Core 5 for 15 - 20 minutes 4 times per week
Additionally...
- Some students have expressed that they have finished their handwriting notebooks! If this is the case, students can continue to practice writing letters. click the purple link for some fun ways your child can practice writing letters this spring! Letter Practice.
- Writing assignments can be competed on any paper you have if the journals are full or use the template on Seesaw if needed. Remember to take a picture of your writing and submit it to me through Seesaw. (Students could also record themselves reading it to me!)
In math we will be finishing up our unit on Subtraction before we begin teen numbers and place value. We will continue to review counting, subtilizing, and fact fluency.
In literacy, we will be spend time focusing on phonics rules for reading and spelling words. This week, students will learn when to use C or K (and ck) when spelling words that begin with the /k/ sound or end with the /k/ sound. They will also work on vowel sounds.
A reminder that ALL children can get breakfast and lunch through the school for free. Pick up Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
If you are struggling and need support getting through this time, you can call 211 for assistance.
As always, please let me know if you have any questions or need anything.
Wishing you all well.
Diane Nicholls
