It was a bit of a soggy week and we were all really feeling it!  We were lucky to be able to get outside everyday this week, but I really think we could all use a little sunshine!

This week we finally finished our uppercase letters (X, Y, and Z)!
We practiced reading words with digraph sounds ( /th/ /sh/ /ch/ /wh/ /ck/) by segmenting and blending the sounds.
Our writing focus this week was on Editing our work.  Students are looking at their writing to see if they can make it better or easier to read by adding punctuation marks, spaces between words, capital letters at the beginning of our sentences, and spelling sight words correctly.

In math we continued composing and decomposing numbers 9 and 10.  We also learned how to add and subtract to solve equations.

In science we continued our focus on Force and Motion.  At ECO we explored with balls and ramps, catapults, and peelers (to whittle wood)

Student behaviors are on the rise!  As we enter the last few weeks of school there is added excitement and  student's nerves may be on edge (concert coming up, anticipation of the end of the year and what's to come next year, etc.).  Please take some time to talk with your students about expected behaviors at school.  Assure them that we will "weather the storm" together.  Keeping a regular evening routine is helpful (though I know not always possible). 

From now to the end of the school year, we will begin morning meeting at 8:00.  Students will have explore time after morning meeting (before math).  I am hopeful this will help us have a more successful start to our day.   Please be mindful of this change as you are dropping students off in the morning.

Exploring with Catapults

In your Friday Folders this week you should find an invitation to the spring concert and art show taking place on May 15th from 5 -7.  Kindergarten students will perform from 5:30 - 6:00

We will have a Kindergarten Celebration on Tuesday, June 11th from 1:45-2:45 in the MES Art Room.  Students will receive their Kindergarten Certificates and share their animal reports with you.

The last day of school for Kindergarten students is Tuesday, June 11th.

Next ECO is Friday May 17th
Last ECO is Monday, June 3rd.
